अनुसंधान फर्म ई मार्केटर का कहना है कि भारत साल 2016 तक वैश्विक स्तर पर स्मार्टफोन का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा बाजार बन जाएगा। फर्म ने एक अनुसंधान में निष्कर्ष निकाला है कि सस्ते हैंडसेट की बढ़ती उपलब्धता के कारण भारत में स्मार्टफोन बाजार तेजी से वृद्धि करेगा। इसके अनुसार 'भारत में स्मार्टफोन उपभोक्ताओं की संख्या 2016 तक 20 करोड़ के आंकड़े को लांघ जाएगी और वह दुनिया का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा स्मार्टफोन बाजार होगा।' इसके अनुसार 2016 तक चीन इस लिहाज से पहले स्थान पर, भारत दूसरे व अमेरिका तीसरे स्थान पर होगा। चीन में स्मार्टफोन मोबाइल हैंडसेट की संख्या 62.47 करोड़ होगी।
